As people grow in life, they mature and change. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird,by Harper Lee, Scout, the main character, matures as the book continues. Slowly but surely, Scout learns to control her explosive temper, to refrain from fistfights, and to respect Calpurnia, their maid, and to really learn her value to the family.At the beginning of the novel, Scout is a selfish and immature girl. Throughout the duration of the book, we see her mature and blossom into a young woman. She does this by watching the world around her and developing her own sense of right and wrong. Her environment, the town of Maycomb.Scout's Maturation At the beginning of the novel Scout is a young girl who is socially unaware and slightly self centered. Harper Lee shows this lack of maturity in different ways. Malapropisms Harper Lee often uses Malapropisms to highlight Scout's lack af maturity.
Harper Lee illustrates the process of maturation through the characters Scout, Jem, and Dill. One of the characters that mature's is Scout. Scout evolves from a naive, immature child to a mature empathetic young woman. Scouts' immaturity can be seen in the beginning of the novel when she tells Atticus about her first day at school.In this book, Scout’s maturity follows the concept of Bloom’s Taxonomy, a multi-tiered model of conceptual thinking according to six levels of complexity (Forehand). Scout starts out using only the two bottom layers of this method, knowledge and observation, and comprehension, both which she has had since a very young age.
Maturation Of Scout In Harper Lee’s novel, “To Kill A Mocking Bird” we see that maturation of some of the characters is clearly evident, particularly Scouts. We see this by the way she acts in front of Miss Maudie, Calpurnia and Mrs. Alexandra Finch.
